Push the button6/30/2023 ![]() The project had a budget of over $30 million provided by Media Rights Capital. Gillian Jacobs as Dana / Sarah Matthewsĭirector Richard Kelly wrote a script based on the 1970 short story "Button, Button" by author Richard Matheson, which had previously been turned into a Twilight Zone episode of the same name.It is implied that this mysterious offer will continue among other couples in the future. They also decide to press the button at the same time, Arthur shoots Norma while embracing her, and Walter is healed from his condition. Norma, wanting her son to live his life without disability, asks Arthur to kill her, and after a long goodbye, he reluctantly agrees but cannot bring himself to pull the trigger.Īnother couple is offered the same box. Steward departs, and Arthur realizes the choice to push the button has placed the family in purgatory. ![]() Arthur contemplates killing Steward, but Steward warns him he will be charged with the murder, his son's condition will remain, and the family will be left with nothing. Steward refuses Norma's proposal to kill herself. Steward laments that he had hoped the family would not succumb to the temptation of the money, and delivers a final ultimatum: They may keep the money and live out their lives with their disabled son, or Arthur can kill Norma, thereby restoring Walter's sight and hearing, with the million dollars placed in a high-interest account available to him when he turns 18. It is revealed that Steward has been collaborating with a group of benefactors, using the box to decide whether the human race is worth preserving.Īfter several paranormal incursions, Steward returns to the Lewis home and informs them that Walter, earlier kidnapped by unknown assailants, is locked in the family's bathroom upstairs and has been stricken blind and deaf. The chief tells Cahill that Steward became "something else" after being killed by lightning, shortly after NASA received the first photograph transmitted by the Viking 1 Mars lander in July 1976.Īrthur and Norma become plagued by seemingly supernatural happenings and are visited by others who fell victim to the box, pressing the button and suffering the same fate as the Lewis family. NASA chief Martin Teague and Norm Cahill, Arthur's boss, discuss Cahill's missing colleague, Arlington Steward. The police treat the murder as a domestic homicide, and it is discovered that the husband of the woman who was shot is a colleague of Arthur's. Arthur attempts to return the money, but Steward declines, stating that he can do nothing because "the button has been pressed". Steward arrives and presents Arthur and Norma with the $1 million, assuring them that someone did indeed die as a result of their actions, and that the same offer will be presented to someone else they do not know. It is revealed that someone is shot, and the gunman ran from the scene with a briefcase. After further discussion, Norma impulsively pushes the button, whispering 'It's just a box'. They discuss the matter further in the morning, and after work, Arthur reveals that the hundred dollar bill is real. They open the box to discover it is 'just a bunch of wood', and Arthur chastises Norma for her fear, but no decision is made before they go to sleep. Norma and Arthur argue over Steward's offer, complicated by the news that their son Walter's private school, where Norma teaches, will no longer provide a discount for his tuition. ![]() ![]() He gives her $100 for allowing him to enter the house and voice his deal, and leaves. Steward arrives to deliver the key to unlock the button, and tells Norma that if the button is pushed, she will receive $1 million in cash, but someone she does not know will die. In December 1976, financially desperate NASA engineer Arthur Lewis and his wife Norma find a package on their doorstep, containing a wooden box with a large red button. The film stars Cameron Diaz and James Marsden as a couple who receive a box from a mysterious man (played by Frank Langella) who offers them one million dollars if they press the button sealed within the dome on top of the box, but tells them that, once the button has been pushed, someone they do not know will die. It is based on the 1970 short story " Button, Button" by Richard Matheson, which was previously adapted into an episode of The Twilight Zone. The Box is a 2009, American psychological thriller film written and directed by Richard Kelly, who also serves as a co-producer. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() It’s not the lyrics that let the album down, but that on slow tracks like ‘ Indentions’ and even the title track ‘ Cope,’ there’s nothing in the blended guitar/percussion ensemble or the drawn out, repetitious vocal melody, which affirms the unusual power of the lyrics. On ‘ The Ocean’ Hull sings in his standard twang ‘ I let go, I give it to the ocean’ and that’s about as specific as he gets, and on ‘ Girl Harbor’ the lyrics are typically straight to the point. Manchester Orchestra always had a way of saying the most profound things in the most succinct way, and ' Cope' is no different. On ‘ Choose You’ and later on ‘ The Mansion’ a thick and staunchly baseline, characterised by noise, lots of fleshed out, rubbery noise, lays a yellow brick road for Hull’s minimalist lyrics. The lead vocals and songwriting are, as to be expected, first class, and Andy Hull does a fantastic job of bringing the air of the record together with the instrumentals, with his commanding vocal performance alone. 'Cope' beings with ‘ Top Notch,’ and subsequently, a whole lot of theatrical reverb and a base-line drop, repeated for dramatic effect. ' Cope' is a mixture of both of these outcomes the band aren’t really creating material that is a pinpoint-able progression of their talents, but there’ s still a glimpse of something larger that is not fully realised on the final product. Were they to loiter in the safe zone and opt for regurgitating old material? Fans might have something to say about it, but equally so, if the band aimed for new and uncharted stars and fell short of fully realizing the vision for the record, you’d notice. Having taken the alternative rock world truly by storm in 2011 with the tornado of delectable musical sounds that was Simple Math, three years later the fame and fortune of Manchester Orchestra rested on pulling out of a hat a full length bigger and better than the last. ![]()

So remember, Filter Curve EQ, Noise Gate and Compressor will improve the sound of your Blue Yeti with ease in Audacity. The final thing you can do is to add on a Noise Gate by going to Effect > Noise Gate and eliminating anything below about -36 dB, which can really improve the sound of your Blue Yeti, particularly if you’re in a room with a lot of echo. Go to Effect > Compressor and, to make this work perfectly, set the Threshold to -20 dB, the Noise Floor to -60 dB, 2.5:1 on the Ratio and leave Attack and Release Time as it is at 0.10 secs and 1.0 secs respectively. To listen to the difference between your new track and the original, copy the original track, go to Tracks > Add New > Mono Track and you can mute one track to listen to the other. To select it, again go to Effect > Filter Curve EQ > Manage > User Presets > Blue Yeti and click OK. To save your settings, go to Manage > Save Preset, call it Blue Yeti and you’ll have those settings saved for the future. STEP 7: Finally, bump up the bass a little. STEP 6: And then moving out some of the undesirable, boxy mid-range of the Blue Yeti also works well. STEP 4: I also find that a little boost at around 3,500 Hz also works really well on the Blue Yeti. STEP 3: Then, boost some of the high-end, allowing the treble to really pull out the frequencies of the Blue Yeti. STEP 2: Start by rolling off some of the low-end by placing two dots and rolling off any unwanted bass. STEP 1: First, select all of your audio and then go to Effect > Filter Curve EQ which helps you draw on a nice curve for the Blue Yeti. Filter Curve EQ Explained In Simple Steps It’s pretty easy to make your Blue Yeti mic sound good in Audacity and I have a few quick tips to get your Blue Yeti sounding clean and crisp. Disable mouse acceleration6/30/2023 ![]() ![]() Mouse smoothing is the interpolation of raw input data from the mouse in order to prevent jerky movement in low resolution mice. 3.2 Windows smooth mouse even if you disable pointer precision.2.2.3 Combination of positive and negative mouse acceleration.2.1 How to detect mouse acceleration in game.I tried it in OS 10.7 Lion, but many of the sources claim to be using 10.6 Snow Leopard. I won't cite a source, since this tip is available in many places on the web. If you want to disable acceleration on a trackpad instead of a mouse, the instructions are the same, just replace with wherever you see in the above (and use the Trackpad pane of System Preferences instead of the Mouse pane, obviously). Mac OS X stores mouse and trackpad settings independently. To revert back to Apple default settings, just open the Mouse pane of System Preferences and change the Tracking Speed to anything, then quit System Preferences. After that, the pixels pointer moves / meters mouse moved ratio is constant but unfortunately not adjustable. ![]() I found I had to log out and back in again for it to take effect. In the Terminal, that seems to disable acceleration and set the mouse tracking speed to some constant predefined value which you can't change. However, if you set it to -1 by typing defaults write. Values of 0 ~ 3 won't disable acceleration, therefore. Normal values are 0 ~ 3, which can be set by moving the 'Tracking Speed' slider in the Mouse pane of System Preferences. GlobalPreferences Īt the Terminal prompt. To read its current value type defaults read. There's a hidden preference that you can change from the Terminal. For all other discussion, go have it here on the superuser site where it belongs. Therefore the question above is about how to tackle this if you want to code your own mouse drivers. (See the first sentence of this question.) Here I'm trying to create my own solution, so to speak, using - I don't know - some HID API? A driver? A solution on the lines of "open current user's prefs file and change this setting to this" should probably be posted on the other question, but note that such a solution probably doesn't exist.Ī lot of my reputation on StackOverflow has come from people voting up this answer, which I wrote way back before I realised that there are several stack exchange websites and that StackOverflow is for programming questions and answers only. Thanks in advance.Įdit: Although I've asked both questions to solve the same problem, this is the programmatical counterpart to the other one. I know the question is a bit open but I don't even know what kind of a solution could work. ![]() So anything is appreciated, really ("can't distribute drivers without certificate from Apple") but some documentation/reference would get me a long way ("Darwin's Next Generation Mouse Curve Editing API and Examples"). I'm a fairly experienced C programmer, both in user and kernel space (in Linux and Windows), but know next to nothing about Mac OS X or Darwin. Can easily be applied/run by other people who want the same thing (all 42 of us on the planet).Works on mice but not touchpads, tablets, magic wands.Works on Snow Leopard (10.6.5) and later - much later, unless an important piece of the API gets deprecated.I want my solution to be as simple, universal and unintrusive as possible, so some criteria might be: (Well, not true, but it's better to start from scratch.) Should I write a mouse driver? A startup program? A click-and-forget settings adjuster? A preferences pane? ![]() That is, no acceleration an adjustable but constant pixels pointer moves / meters mouse moved ratio. To summarize: I want to have linear mouse response on Mac OS X. First of all, here's the userland question: Disabling mouse acceleration in Mac OS X superuser ![]()

Maker of karma quadcopter drone6/30/2023 ![]() The drone integrates a gimbal stabilizer that can alternatively be detached and used terrestrially with the Karma Grip Handle. One solution is to stock up on extra Karma batteries, currently priced at £99.99.This new Dark Horse is Karma, a compact quadcopter that is designed to fold up easily for transport in an included lightweight carry case or the available GoPro Seeker backpack. I found that to be fairly accurate, but with the Mavic Pro and Phantom 4 offering up to 27 minutes, 20 is no longer plenty. According to GoPro, a full battery charge (which takes around an hour) will give the Karma up to 20 minutes of air time. In terms of flight time, it’s also a little behind its rivals. So if you want a drone that flies high and far, the Karma isn’t the best choice. ![]() The Karma uses only Wi-Fi, and in testing I found it lost its connection at around 500ft, even in wide open spaces like the beach. DJI’s drones communicate with the controller using both Wi-Fi and radio signals, which enables them to fly a long way from the user – up to 4.3 miles in optimum conditions in the Mavic Pro’s case (although doing so would be breaking UK law). The Karma doesn’t, which means that, even in its automated return to home mode it could crash into a tree or pylon without human intervention, and that flying it indoors is not recommended. Both the Phantom 4 and Mavic Pro, for instance, have sensors that help them avoid collision with obstacles in front and allow them to fly steadily in interior spaces (where GPS won’t work). ![]() It’s got decent four-hour battery life, is made of a tough matte plastic, the screen is clear and bright, and it’s nice not to have to rely on your smartphone or tablet to fulfil the display duties.īut compare the Karma to its DJI rivals and it feels under-equipped and under-powered. I like the self-contained controller too. With automated take-off and landing and simple two-stick controls, it’s easy to fly, and its GPS sensors ensure it will return to home when the battery’s almost depleted or if the signal between controller and drone cuts out.įlick it into sport mode and it’ll zip along at a brisk 35mph, responding quickly to your commands. GoPro Karma performance: easy flier, but under-poweredĪs a flyer, the Karma feels a generation or two behind other recent big name drones.įirst, the good bits. In order to change other settings, you’ll need to tap the Hero5’s touchscreen, which can be a bit tricky with the gimbal mount in the way. The Grip’s also compatible with GoPro’s mount system, so you can attach it securely to a car or bike, or to the left strap of the Karma’s backpack to make it into a nicely stabilised body cam.Ĭontrols on the handle let you switch the Hero5 Black between video, photo, burst and time-lapse modes and stop and start recording. There’s some bob evident when you’re walking, but it’s not the nausea-inducing shaky stuff you’d ordinarily get from a handheld action cam. ![]() It’s a little like a simplified DJI Osmo, lacking some of the finer points but delivering a similarly smooth brand of video when you’re moving. Pop the camera gimbal off the drone via a simple unlocking mechanism, insert it into the Grip’s handle and, just like that, you have a stabilised handheld camera. The Karma Grip is a really smart addition to the package. GoPro Karma extras: Shooting from the grip And most of the drone’s components – props, prop arms, landing gear, even the gimbal – are all user-replaceable in the event that they do get damaged. ![]() The drone, controller, Grip and HERO5 Black all feel like they could withstand rougher treatment than the Mavic Pro. I will say that GoPro has excelled on the toughness front, though. The existence of the Mavic takes the shine off the Karma’s tidy design somewhat. That drone folds up to the size of a water bottle, and comes with a tiny controller that uses your smartphone as its screen. Unfortunately for GoPro, the DJI Mavic Pro exists. It’s lightweight too you can lug the entire kit around all day without too much effort. Because it mounts the camera at the front rather than underneath, the Karma drone is slimmer than many of its rivals, and with the landing gear and rotor arms folded in, its low-profile nature means the backpack is little bigger than a briefcase. GoPro has put great efforts into the portability aspect. Given that, when bought separately, the Hero5 costs £400 and the Karma Grip £300, that’s a pretty sweet deal. One of the things I like best about the Karma is that it comes as a self-contained system.īuy the most expensive package and you get the drone, a controller with a 5in 720p touchscreen, a Hero5 Black camera (GoPro’s flagship action cam), the Karma Grip handheld gimbal and a slim, tough backpack that everything fits into, all for £1,200. ![]()

Jummp time6/29/2023 ![]() ![]() If we know two of these, we can compute the other two. You want to make sure the jump takes a second? What gravity should it have? I'm also going to remind that you probably want coyote time and jump buffering (look it up). However, not setting the velocity to zero will be a problem when it walks to off a ledge, since it would have stored speed. we don't set the velocity back to zero when the character is on floor. we are checking is_on_floor after move_and_slide and 2. Although I don't expect it to be a problem with this code, since: 1. That is because there is a Bullet integration bug that gives inconsistent results for is_on_floor. Here I'm using is_on_floor, so make sure to put a solid floor for your character to stand in.īy the way, I'm going to recommend to set the physics engine to Godot Physics on Project Settings -> Physics -> 3D. What? It went through the floor? Well… export var velocity := Vector3(0, -25.0, 0) ![]() We can store it in a varia… Look, let us compute the change in velocity delta_velocity after a time delta (you do have delta): velocity_a = a*t + bĪdd gravitacional acceleration, and we do this: export var velocity := Vector3(0, -25.0, 0) What do you mean what time? It is the time at which the jump began. So that is our vertical velocity (change in height respect the change in time): velocity = a*t + b Ask Wolfram|Alpha to do it: differentiate with respect to t Differential calculus… No, no, come back. And we must use that so it interacts with the game physics. Oh, but Godot wants a velocity for move_and_slide. You set a vertical speed, wait half a second and then set another vertical speed.ĭo you remember vertical throw? We want a motion that follows this formula (with time as parameter t): y = c + b*t + (1/2)a*t^2 Wait, you start the timer again, but you don't wait on it? Oh, it is just this: velocity.y = SPEEDĪnd hopefully that is simple enough that you can read what is going on. Is functionally equivalent to this: velocity.y = SPEED Here we are using a SceneTreeTimer, which will be freed after it is done. We can do something different, which will not have that problem, it is just one line, and it is functionally equivalent: yield(get_tree().create_timer(0.5), "timeout") Notice that you are adding timers as children every jump (and I don't see you remove them): var t = Timer.new() Is equivalent to this: velocity.y = SPEED You are doing this: velocity.y = lerp(velocity.y,0.0,1.0) If you were to pass a weight between 0.0 and 1.0 you would get a result in the between the initial and final value - and the point of lerp is that you would keep the initial and final values and steadily change the weight. And if you pass a weight of 1.0 you get the final value to. If you set pass a weight of 0.0 you get the initial value from. If I were to implement lerp in GDScript, it would look like this: func lerp(from:float, to:float, weight:float) -> float: ![]() |
